Mycobacterium bovis BCG Surface Antigens Expressed under the Granuloma-Like Conditions as Potential Inducers of the Protective Immunity

Figure 5

The number of viable bacteria in the lungs of the BCG challenged mice. (a) The colony forming units of M. bovis BCG were determined in the lungs of control nonimmunized (PBS inhalation) and the recombinant protein mix immunized mice (n = 9/group) that were challenged with M. bovis BCG as described in Section 2. Mice were sacrificed two weeks after the bacterial inoculation to identify the viable BCG. Results are expressed as CFUs for the individual mice, and the mean values for each group are provided. (Student's t-test). . (b) The histopathology of lungs of mice challenged with M. bovis BCG after inhalation of PBS (A) or recombinant protein (B) immunization.
