It is shown that for every homomorphism <mml:math alttext="$\phi $" xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><mml:mi>&#981;</mml:mi></mml:math> of a graph <mml:math alttext="$G$" xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><mml:mi>G</mml:mi></mml:math> there exists a contraction <mml:math alttext="$\theta _\phi  $" xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><mml:mrow><mml:msub><mml:mi>&#952;</mml:mi><mml:mi>&#981;</mml:mi></mml:msub></mml:mrow></mml:math> on <mml:math alttext="$\bar G$" xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><mml:mover accent="true"><mml:mi>G</mml:mi><mml:mo>&#175;</mml:mo></mml:mover></mml:math>, the complement of <mml:math alttext="$G$" xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><mml:mi>G</mml:mi></mml:math>, such that <mml:math alttext="$\overline {\phi \left( G \right)}  = \theta _\phi  \left( {\bar G} \right)$" xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><mml:mrow><mml:mover accent="true"><mml:mrow><mml:mi>&#981;</mml:mi><mml:mrow><mml:mo>(</mml:mo><mml:mi>G</mml:mi><mml:mo>)</mml:mo></mml:mrow></mml:mrow><mml:mo stretchy="true">&#175;</mml:mo></mml:mover><mml:mo>=</mml:mo><mml:msub><mml:mi>&#952;</mml:mi><mml:mi>&#981;</mml:mi></mml:msub><mml:mrow><mml:mo>(</mml:mo><mml:mover accent="true"><mml:mi>G</mml:mi><mml:mo>&#175;</mml:mo></mml:mover><mml:mo>)</mml:mo></mml:mrow></mml:mrow></mml:math> if and only if <mml:math alttext="$G$" xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><mml:mi>G</mml:mi></mml:math> is a complete <mml:math alttext="$n$" xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><mml:mi>n</mml:mi></mml:math>-partite graph.
