Basal Middle Eocene (Early Lutetian) gravel: quantitative analysis and transportation direction reconstruction. The main Paleozoic components (Carboniferous quartz) must have been transported by an ancient river running between today's Wiehengebirge and Teutoburger Wald mountain ranges, ending in a delta. Other components (Jurassic material) are from the Wiehengebirge range, whereas Lower Cretaceous pebbles and ammonite fossils are from north Germany. Flints were accumulated from different directions (Maastricht/Aachen area, and Dammer Berge; Material no. SCB Dal-Sedim-1–16).
