Photocatalysis for Wastewater Treatment

Call for Papers

Industrial processes such as textile, chemical, petrochemical, biochemical, pharmaceutical, and other processes have produced a great volume of contaminated water. This water contains a number of organic compounds and has severely affected the aquatic ecosystems due to their elevated toxicities. Degradation of these toxic wastes with conventional methods is rather complicated and incomplete. The use of nanotechnology for eliminating or reducing environmental contamination has been significantly highlighted over recent decades, and heterogeneous photocatalysis represents part of the solution for water pollution control, as it allows for the complete mineralization of organic contaminants without generating dangerous intermediate residual compounds.

This special issue focuses on wastewater treatment using photocatalytic technology assisted with sun or ultraviolet light irradiation. It will cover the recent advances in the novel synthesis of heterogeneous photocatalysts, advanced characterization with a variety of spectroscopic techniques, photocatalytic applications for the degradation of a wide region of toxic organic compounds present in water bodies, and the exploration of reaction mechanisms and kinetics. Authors are expected to include discussion on the waste water treatment efficiency achieved by new materials and methods.

We call for original research papers with high scientific quality as well as review articles.

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:

  • Novel synthetic methods of photocatalysts
  • Structural characterization of photocatalysts such as boron nitride, carbon nitride, Ti, V, Zn, Cd, Ag, and Bi-related nanomaterials
  • Effect of doping with heteroatoms on the photocatalytic properties
  • Photodegradation of wastewater discharged from textile and dye industries
  • Photodegradation of wastewater discharged from pharmaceutical industries
  • Photodegradation of wastewater discharged from chemical, biochemical, and petrochemical industries
  • Surface reaction mechanism and kinetics
