Carbohydrate Polymers: Characterization, Applications, and Their Challenges

Call for Papers

Natural carbohydrate polymers are widely present in marine plants and algae, which are used in various fields such as tissue engineering, biomaterials, food industry, pharmaceutical industry, nanotechnology, and drug delivery. Recent developments on carbohydrate polymer applications place a vital role in the field of biotechnological and biomedical industry. Carbohydrate polymers are used as anticancer, anti-inflammatory, antidiabetic, and antibacterial agents. The major challenges for a researcher includes (i) isolation, purification, and characterization of novel carbohydrate polymer in marine plants using analytical techniques like gel filtration, HPLC, NMR, and MS spectrometry, (ii) evaluation of biological activity and/or toxicity in various mammalian cells or animal models, (iii) chemical modification of carbohydrate polymers, and (iv) drug delivery and formulation of carbohydrate polymers using various methods like nanoformulation and so on. This special edition will cover the exploration of novel naturally occurring carbohydrates and their application in various fields.

The purpose of this special edition is to publish high quality research work as well as review paper on carbohydrate polymers and their role in various biological fields or new bioactive characterization or finding of new interactor with carbohydrates polymers or drug delivery methods using carbohydrate polymers. We sincerely invite authors to publish high quality original research work or review papers within the scope of this special issue.

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:

  • Development of advanced method(s) for the isolation of carbohydrate polymers
  • Characterization of polysaccharide and glycoprotein using various biophysical techniques
  • Biological activity of carbohydrate polymer
  • Drug delivery methods for carbohydrate polymer
  • Identification of novel biomolecular interactors of carbohydrate polymer in marine plants
  • Application in pharmacy, food, bioengineering, and other related areas
