New Chemistry and Materials of Plant Polysaccharides

Call for Papers

Polysaccharides are a class of important biomacromolecules. They are generally either linear or branched polymer that are composed of diverse monosaccharides joined through various glycosidic linkages, which are extremely common and widespread in nature. Due to their various functions, polysaccharides have been cleverly used by human beings as the main source of materials and as a major energy source. Natural polysaccharides from plants have long been studied and widely used in different areas, such as food and feed, medicine and pharmaceutics, textile, and papermaking. Many countries regard development of polysaccharide-based energy, materials, and chemicals as important measure for relieving the strain on resources and warmer climate. In addition, the development strategies, such as bioeconomy, biorefinery, and platform chemicals from biomasses, have been put forward as the specific milestones for the sustainable development and the corresponding incentive policy. Recently, the developments of new chemistry of plant polysaccharides have provided novel platforms to prepare various polysaccharide-based materials which can be used widely in many fields.

We invite researchers to contribute original research articles as well as review articles about the new chemistry and materials of plant polysaccharides which have current or potential application in areas such as biomaterials, nanocomposites, chemistry, tissue engineering, pharmaceuticals, and smart materials.

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:

  • New biorefinery concepts with the focus on plant polysaccharides
  • Structure and physical properties of plant polysaccharides
  • New chemical modification method and process of plant polysaccharides
  • Novel plant polysaccharide derivatives and their applications
  • Functional materials based on polysaccharides
