Wind Generation Systems including Energy Storage

Description

As a representative of renewable energy sources, wind power generation plays a crucial role in replacing traditional fossil energy and achieving sustainable development of socioeconomics. When a lot of large-scale wind turbine generators are connected to electric power systems, it is essential to ensure the security, stability, and reliability of wind generation systems. From the viewpoint of eliminating the intermittency and randomness of wind energy, the utilization of energy storage is a feasible solution. Technically, wind generation systems including energy storage can offer many different benefits, such as power oscillation damping, economic energy dispatch, voltage-frequency stabilization, and fault ride-through (FRT) capability enhancement.

The purpose of this special issue is to provide a platform for presenting the latest research results on wind generation systems including energy storage. We seek original research papers on theoretical, methodological, and empirical studies, as well as review papers, which provide critical overview on the state of the art of technologies. This special issue is open to all types of wind turbine generators, for instance, doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) and permanent-magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) based wind turbines. This special issue is also open to all forms of energy storage for wind power applications, such as supercapacitor, compressed air, and superconducting magnetic energy storage (SMES). We kindly welcome original, high quality contributions that are not yet published or that are not currently under review by other journals or peer-reviewed conferences.

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:

  • Theoretical modeling, simulation, and characteristic analysis of wind generation systems including energy storage
  • Advanced control of active power and frequency for wind generation systems including energy storage
  • Improved control of reactive power and voltage for wind generation systems including energy storage
  • Small signal, dynamics, and stability of wind generation systems including energy storage, in particular the FRT capability and transient process analysis
  • Economic dispatch and parameter optimization of wind generation systems including energy storage
  • Reliability assessment, system maintenance, prototype test, and practical engineering applications of wind generation systems including energy storage
