Design Considerations for a Portable Raman Probe Spectrometer for Field Forensics

Figure 3

Representative test Raman spectra of pure RDX accreted onto a quartz cuvette (a) and amino dinitrotoluene compound(s) (Supelco) likewise plated to a standard quartz cuvette (b). The spectra were recorded using the Headwall/Andor demo system with 40โ€‰mW of 785โ€‰nm excitation. Each spectrum above is the result of one, 1 s exposure. The mass, ๐‘š , of material resolved in the focal area of each example is 19.6โ€‰ng, and 23.6โ€‰ng respectively, corresponding to a single rounded-particle radius ๐‘Ÿ โ‰ˆ 1 4 . 6 and 15.5โ€‰ ๐œ‡ m, respectively [via: ๐‘š โ€‰โ€‰โ‰ˆ 1.5โ€‰g/cm3โ€‰ยทโ€‰(4 ๐œ‹ r 3/3), radius in cm].
