Understanding the Crystallinity Indices Behavior of Burned Bones and Teeth by ATR-IR and XRD in the Presence of Bioapatite Mixed with Other Phosphate and Carbonate Phases

The XRF spectra analysis for bones and tooth where we have observed formation of β-TCP after a high temperature treatment. The peak of magnesium expected at 1.25 keV appears to be totally absent for all spectra. This cast some doubts about the presumed role of Mg ions in stabilizing the β-TCP phase. Nevertheless there are other weak peaks from other elements (Al, S, and Cl) whose role should be inspected.
