Adhesion to human epithelial cells. Strains were incubated with cell line HT-29 for 45 and 90 minutes. After washing away, any nonadherentcells wells were overlaid with molten PDA. Adhesion to epithelial cells was assessed by counting the number of colonies present on the microtiters plates after 24 h and comparing to control plates. Adhesion was expressed as a percentage of the original inoculums. As can be seen, the mutant exhibited a significant delay in adhesion after 45 min ().
