Distribution of IL-8 expression in sigmoidal-rectal colon of a single cancer patient. The patient had a cancer in the sigmoidal-rectal colon, as indicated by the spot with jagged edges. Locations of other mucosa samples removed for analysis are indicated by the circular spots. Levels of IL-8 expression in each sample were determined by RT-PCR and are indicated roughly by color coding, as shown in the Figure. The mean level of expression of IL-8 in colon mucosa of noncancer patients was 2.25 (as shown in Table 3).
