Modeling and Analysis of Air Traveler Behaviors and Choices

This issue is now closed for submissions.

Description

Reliable forecasts of air transport activities play a vital role in the planning process of countries, airports, airlines, manufacturers, suppliers, air navigation service providers, and other related agencies. Therefore, how to analyze and model air travelers’ choice behavior is crucial to accurately predict transport activities.

Since the choice of traveler's behavior for air transportation is driven by a different number of factors, analyzing and modeling air traveler behavior is inherently complicated and challenging. It is commonly believed that understanding air travelers’ choices from various aspects and developing an advanced methodology are essential to objectively assist the aviation industry in reducing risks and in their decision-making regarding the development and enhancement of the services provided to passengers. Moreover, ongoing security issues and instability might continue to affect future air traveler behavior and choices. Despite these challenges, considering the importance of air traveler behavior in the air transport industry, many interesting topics in this field are worth studying.

In this Special Issue, we welcome original research and review articles used to understand or solve air traveler behavior and choice issues. Adequate management policies or strategies can be suggested to improve the efficiency of air transport operations and to meet the needs of air passengers.

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:

  • Air traveler behavior with regards to access to and egress from airports
  • Airline choice behavior including traditional or low-cost airlines
  • Advanced econometric discrete methods in modeling the air travelers’ behavior and choices
  • Cutting edge econometric aggregate methods in estimating air passenger volume or investigating airline competition
  • Air traveler willingness to pay analysis and modeling for different services provided by airlines
  • Psychological aspects of passenger air travel attitudes and behavior
  • Role of big data analytics in the aviation industry
