Construction of the cohort. The eligible population included patients listed in the SEER-Medicare Database who were diagnosed (between 1995 and 1999) with incident stage III or IV breast, lung, or colon cancer, or with nonlocalized cancer of the prostate or pancreas at the age of 67 years or older.
