Several 2-[2-{(4-substitutedbenzylidene)-phenyl}vinyl]-4-oxo-3,4-dihydroquinazolone-6-sulfonicacid 4(a-l) and 2-[2-{4-(3-chloro-4-substituedphenyl-azetidin-2-one)-phenyl}vinyl]-4-oxo-3,4-dihydroqui-nazolone-6-sulfonic acid 5(a-l) were synthesized by using conventional techniques and were screened for antibacterial and antifungal activity. The compounds showed good to moderate antimicrobial activity and were characterized on the basis of spectral analysis.

Synthesis and Antimicrobial Screening of Quinazolone Containing Novel Heterocyclic Schiff Base and Azetidinone by Niementowski Reaction

The kinetics of ruthenium(III) catalysed oxidation of L-Proline by permanganate in alkaline medium at a constant ionic strength has been studied spectrophotometrically using a rapid kinetic accessory. The reaction between permanganate and L-Proline in alkaline medium exhibits 2:1 stoichiometry (KMnO4: L-Proline). The reaction shows first order dependence on [permanganate] and [ruthenium(III)] and apparent less than unit order dependence each in L-Proline and alkali concentrations. Reaction rate increases with increase in ionic strength and decrease in solvent polarity of the medium. Initial addition of reaction products did not affect the rate significantly. A mechanism involving the formation of a complex between catalyst and substrate has been proposed. The activation parameters were computed with respect to the slow step of the mechanism and discussed

Kinetics and Mechanistic Study of the Ruthenium(III) Catalysed Oxidative  Decarboxylation of L-Proline by Alkaline Heptavalent Manganese (Stopped flow technique)

A new quinazolinone derivative namely 2-(4-phenylpiperazinyl)methyl-3-(8-quinolinol-5-yl)- 4(3h)-quinazolinone(HL) was prepared and characterized. Various transition metal (Cu2+, Co2+, Ni2+, Zn2+, Mn2+) chelates of HL were prepared and characterized by metal ligand (M:L) ratio, IR and reflectance spectral studies, magnetic moment, and antimicrobial activity.

Synthesis, Characterization, Chelating Properties and Anti-Fungal Activity of 2-(4-Phenylpiperazinyl) Methyl-3-(8-Quinolinol-5-YL)- 4(3H)-Quinazolinone

The kinetics of oxidation of L-histidine by manganese(VII) in aqueous alkaline medium at a constant ionic strength of 0.05 mol dm-3 was studied spectrophotometrically. The reaction between permanganate and L-histidine in alkaline medium exhibits 2:1 stoichiometry (KMnO4: L-histidine). The reaction is of first order in [KMnO4], less than unit order in [L-histidine] and [alkali]. Decrease in the dielectric constant of the medium decreases the rate of reaction. Effect of added products and ionic strength of the reaction medium have been investigated. The main products were identified by spot test and I.R. A mechanism involving the free radical has been proposed. In composite equilibrium step L-histidine binds to MnO4- species to form a complex(C). The reaction constants involved in the different steps of mechanism are evaluated. The activation parameters with respect to slow step of the mechanism are computed and discussed and thermodynamic quantities are also determined.

Mechanism of Oxidation of L-Histidine by Heptavalent Manganese in Alkaline Medium

The paper researched the synthesis of p-methylcalix[6]arene and p-tertbutylcalix[8]arene catalyzed by KOH in moderate yields under microwave irradiation. The effects of different factors on this condensation reaction have been discussed. Compared with classical method, this method had some merits such as easy obtaining the raw materials, short reaction route, simple and convenient aftertreatment, being beneficial to environmental protection.

Microwave-Assisted Synthesis of p[n]arene Catalyzed by KOH

Several 3-(4'-nitrophenyl)-4-(4"-chloro benzamido)-5-substituted phenyl)-4H-1,2,4-triazole (3a-3e) and 3-(4'-nitrophenyl)-4-(4"-methyl benzenesulphonamido)-5-substituted phenyl)-4H-1,2,4-triazole (4a-4e) have been synthesised. Representative compounds were screened for antibacterial, antifungal activity. Most of them showed significant antibacterial activity.
