4-Chloro-2-oxo-2H-chromene-3-carbaldehyde (2) was reacted with different anilines in rectified spirit as solvent to yield a series of the title compounds i.e. 4-chloro-3-((substituted-phenylimino) methyl)-2H-chromen-2-one (3a-i). These compounds were charaterised on the basis of their spectral (IR, 1H NMR) data and evaluated for antimicrobial activity in vitro against gram positive and gram negative bacteria and fungi. Compound 3C was found to be most active with an MIC of 15 &#x3bc;g /mL against all the tested organisms.

Design, Synthesis and Evaluation of Schiff&#8217;s Bases of 4-Chloro-3-coumarin aldehyde as Antimicrobial Agents

Eigenvalue, eigenvector and overlap matrix of nickel halide complex of N-allyl urea and N-allyl thiourea have been evaluated. Our results indicate that ligand field parameters (Dq, B’ and β) evaluated earlier by electronic spectra are very close to values evaluated with the help of eigenvalues and eigenvectors. Eigenvector analysis and population analysis shows that in bonding 4s, 4p, and 3dx2-y2, 3dyz orbitals of nickel are involved but the coefficient values differ in different complexes. Out of 4px, 4py, 4pz the involvement of either 4pz or 4py, is noticeable. The theoretically evaluated positions of infrared bands indicate that N-allyl urea is coordinated to nickel through its oxygen and N-allyl thiourea is coordinated to nickel through its sulphur which is in conformity with the experimental results.

Molecular Mechanics and Quantum Chemistry Based Study of Nickel-N-Allyl Urea and N-Allyl Thiourea Complexes

A novel synthesis of 4-acylthiosemicarbazone-3-methyl-1-(4&#x60;-methylphenyl)-2-pyrazolin-5-one by condensation of 4-acyl-3-methyl-1-(4&#x60;-methylphenyl)-2-pyrazolin-5-one with thiosemicarbazide is carried out. The compounds were characterized on the basis of elemental analysis, IR, 1H NMR, Mass, DSC and 13C NMR spectral data. The structures were investigated for their antibacterial and antifungal activity. They are very essential to study on cerebral infarction (Free radical scavenger). A single crystal X-ray study of this thiosemicarbazones and their metal complexes is in progress.

Novel Synthesis and Characterization of Thiosemicarbazone Compounds Containing 4-Acyl-2-pyrazolin-5-ones

Metal complex of Mn(II), Co(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II) with benzoic acid have been prepared and characterized by physiochemical methods. On the basis of electronic spectra and magnetic susceptibility measurement in conjunction with infrared spectra, six coordinated octahedral structure have been proposed to all the complexes. The benzoic acid and their complexes have been tested for their antibacterial activity against the bacteria E. coli, Bacillus subtilis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus. Further, the non electrolytic nature of all the synthesized complexes was identified from conductivity measurements.

Synthesis, Characterization and Biological Activity of Mn2+, Co2+, Ni2+ and Cu2+ Complexes of Benzoic Acid Ligand

A new, low cost, locally available biomaterial was tested for its ability to remove cationic dyes from aqueous solution. A granule prepared from a mixture of leafs, fruits and twigs of Muntingia calabura had been utilized as a sorbent for uptake of three cationic dyes, methylene blue (MB), methylene red (MR) and malachite green (MG). The effects of various experimental parameters (e.g., contact time, dye concentration, adsorbent dose and pH) were investigated and optimal experimental conditions were ascertained. Above the value of initial pH 6, three dyes studied could be removed effectively. The isothermal data fitted the Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models for all three dyes sorption. The biosorption processes followed the pseudo-first order rate kinetics. The results in this study indicated that Muntingia calabura was an attractive candidate for removing cationic dyes from the dye wastewater.

Uptake of Cationic Dyes from Aqueous Solution by Biosorption onto Granular Muntingia calabura

The sorptive removal of nickel ion from aqueous solutions using modified ZSM-5 zeolites was investigated. Experiments were carried out as a function of solute concentration and different temperatures. Mesoporous material of ZSM-5 zeolite was modified with phosphoric acid by wet method. The modified zeolite was converted to Na+ form using aqueous NaHCO3 solution. The Na+ form of modified zeolite, represented as PNa2--ZSM-5 was characterized by XRD, BET, SEM and AAS techniques. It was then tested for ion exchange with aqueous Ni(SO4) solution. The Ni2+ content of the solution was analyzed by AAS. Phosphoric acid modified PNa2--ZSM-5 zeolite shows higher adsorption capacity than the parent Na-Y zeolite. Equilibrium modeling data were fit to linear Langmuir model then the Freundlich model. These parameter confirmed that sorption of Ni2+ is feasible spontaneous and endothermic.

Removal of Nickel(II) from Aqueous Solutions by Adsorption with Modified ZSM- 5 Zeolites

Hopanoids are mainly derived from bacteriohopanpolyols that occur especially in bacteria, show the importance of bacterial lipid contributions in geological materials. In this work, GC-MS and RP-HPLC-APCI-MS analyses of hopanoid biomarkers in oxic and anoxic sediment samples from Lake Cadagno (Swiss Alps) and Lake Voua de la Motte (Haute Savoie, France) are presented and discussed. Samples were ultrasonically extracted, fractionated by flush chromatography on silica gel and derivatised before the analyses. Periodic acid/ sodium borohydride cleavage was used to identify highly functionalised hopanoids

Investigation of Hopanoid Biomarkers in Lake Sediments by GC-MS and RP-HPLC-APCI-MS

Since the discovery of carbon nanotubes in 1991 by Iijima, they have been of great interest both from the fundamental point of view and for future applications. The most eye catching features of this structure are their electronic, mechanical, optical and chemical characteristics, which opens a way to future applications. These properties can even be measured on single nanotubes. For commercial applications, large quantities of purified nanotubes are needed. In this paper, recent research on preparation of carbon nanotubes with special reference to low temperature synthesis of high purity is reviewed. The reported achievements in this area will open up more knowledge on carbon nanostructured materials in many areas of emerging nanoscale science and nanotechnology
