Phytochemicals in Farming Aquatic Animals and Plants
Description
Aquaculture is now a very important economic sector of food production, and this practice is probably the fastest growing food-producing sector and it currently accounts for 50% of the world's fish supply for food. Aquatic plants are also an important resource for aquaculture as they provide nutrition, livelihood and have other important industrial uses.
Recently, there has been a preference shown for cultured aquatic foods that are free of synthetic products, due to the increased public awareness of the importance of environmentally friendly products with nutritional benefits. This awareness has highlighted the need to use plant-based bio-active products (also known as phytochemicals) instead of synthetic products in aquaculture production.
The aim of this Special Issue is to collate papers on the use of phytochemicals in aquaculture to satisfy consumer needs and requirements. The fundamental scope of this issue is the use of phytochemicals in all aquaculture practices such as plant-based sea foods, aquaculture, nutrition, treatments with phytochemicals, and similar. Original research and review articles focused on the use of phytochemicals in aquaculture will be considered.
Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:
- Phytochemicals in plant-based seafood products
- Phytochemical properties of aromatic plants
- Phytochemicals in aquaculture feed industries
- Protective effects of phytochemicals in aquaculture
- The potential of phytochemicals as sedatives and anesthetics in aquaculture
- Treatment with phytochemicals in aquaculture
- Role of phytochemicals in GAP (Good Aquaculture Practice)
- Phytochemical effects on the immune responses of fish
- The use of phytochemicals to combat infectious diseases in aquaculture
