Transformations, Treatment, and Prevention of Water Pollutants

Description

Biogeochemical cycles are components of the broader cycle that govern the functioning of planet Earth and, in the last few decades, human activities such as the use of fossil oil, mining, and agriculture are unbalancing them. This caused the accumulation of certain compounds in hydrosphere that provokes pollution problems affecting ecosystems and human health. The knowledge of the chemical/biochemical transformations of these pollutants in water is very important in order to determine their possible noxious effects or, even, the better way to remove them.

This special issue of this journal aims to report the last developments on transformations, treatment, and prevention of water pollutants. For this reason, we invite authors to contribute original research articles as well as review articles that will show the recent advances in this field.

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:

  • Emerging pollutants in water sources and wastewaters
  • Effects of pollutants on the hydrosphere: biodegradability, toxicity, and risks
  • Physicochemical and physical treatment of water pollutants
  • Biological treatment of water pollutants
  • Minimization and prevention of water pollution
