Big Data Science in Network of Sensors and Smart Devices

Call for Papers

Recent advances in sensor and smart device technologies has opened up exciting new applications of networks such as Internet of Things (IoT) and wireless sensor networks (WSN), from which Big Data and streaming data are being produced. For example, different sensors attached to a patient in the ICU (e.g., body temperature, blood pressure, pulse, SPO2, and respiration) produce enormous amount of stream data, which could be analyzed to predict patient condition ahead of time.

This “Big Data” unlocked new challenges and opportunities in many IT and interdisciplinary fields, such as healthcare, education, e-commerce, energy, and cyber security. Big Data poses many challenges among which the most prominent are the Five Vs, namely, Volume, Velocity, Veracity, Value, and Variety.

The special issue focuses on issues related to collection, management, and analytics of Big Data generated from the network of smart devices including IoT and sensor networks. We invite researchers with innovative ideas and cutting edge research in the relevant areas. We solicit high quality research that would significantly contribute to the advancement of this theme. The following research areas of Big Data emanate from the network of sensors and smart devices (including IoT and WSN).

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:

  • Collection, management, and processing
  • Privacy and security issues
  • Distributed, high performance, or cloud computing for management and processing
  • Core machine learning issues
  • Analytics applications in different areas including healthcare, cybersecurity, social networks, energy, and education
  • Mining and visualization
  • Frameworks, architectures, and quality of service
  • Reliability and fault tolerance
  • Other emerging areas related to this theme
