Minimal power loss is highly desired for an efficient and economical operation in distributed systems. This paper presents an improved symbiotic organisms search (ISOS) for system reconfiguration (SR) and distributed generation placement (SR-DGP) simultaneously. The proposed ISOS combined the simple quadratic interpolation (SQI) strategy into SOS to improve the search process. The ISOS was adopted to define the optimal system topology, location, and capacity of distributed generators (DGs) to minimize power losses. The proposed ISOS was evaluated on the 33-node and 69-node systems. The proposed ISOS successfully reduced the power losses by 73.1206% and 84.2861% for the 33-bus and 69-bus. Moreover, ISOS was also compared with other approaches, where ISOS obtained better results than other approaches for all test systems. Hence, ISOS showed its effectiveness in dealing with the SR-DGP problem.

Enhancing Distribution System Performance via Distributed Generation Placement and Reconfiguration Based on Improved Symbiotic Organisms Search

This article deals with the analysis of the effects of passive control on the complex dynamics of a nonlinear damping gyroscope. After modeling the gyroscope dynamics under the influence of the control force, using the harmonic balance method, the amplitudes of the harmonic oscillations are determined. Subsequently, the Routh–Hurwitz criterion is used to analyze and determine the stability domains of the oscillations. The influence of the control force parameters on the amplitude of the oscillations is studied. The control of chaotic dynamics and the coexistence of gyroscope attractors are performed through bifurcation diagrams, Lyapunov exponents, phase portraits, and time series. Numerical simulations are used to confirm the effectiveness of the control force. This article revealed that the amplitude of the harmonic oscillations, the chaotic dynamics, and the coexistence of the attractors of the rotating gyroscope are better controlled when the latter vibrates in the opposite direction to the passive control force.

Nonlinear Dynamics of a Nonlinear Damping Gyroscope and Its Passive Control

In a framework of optimizing performance, a new approach to improving filter performance is proposed by employing mobile sensor networks. Moreover, the information missing in mobile sensor networks is modeled as a conditional probability distribution. Diagnosing the fault type accurately from a variety of faults is very essential to ensure a stable electricity supply when a short-circuit fault occurs. In this paper, a hybrid classification model combining the one-dimensional convolutional neural network (1D-CNN) and the bidirectional long short-term memory network (BiLSTM) is proposed for the classification of cable short-circuit faults to improve the accuracy of fault diagnosis. Sample sets of the current signal for single-phase grounding short circuit, two-phase grounding short circuit, two-phase to phase short circuit, and three-phase grounding short-circuit are obtained by the simulink model, and the signal is input to this network model. The local features of the cable fault signals are extracted using 1D-CNN and the fault signal timing information is captured using BiLSTM, which enables the diagnosis of cable faults based on the automatically extracted features. The experimental results of the simulation show that the model can obtain a good recognition performance and can achieve an overall accuracy of 99.45% in classifying the four short-circuit faults with 500 iterations. In addition, the analysis of loss function curves and accuracy curves shows that the method performs better than networks with only temporal feature extraction, such as 1D-CNN and LSTM.

The Cable Fault Diagnosis for XLPE Cable Based on 1DCNNs-BiLSTM Network

As a nonlinear control method, the Euler–Lagrange- (EL-) based passivity-based control (PBC) has been studied for grid-tied converters based on energy function to achieve better performance. However, the EL-based PBC method is dependent on an accurate mathematical model. In the traditional EL-based PBC research for LCL-filtered grid-tied inverter, the effect of the digital control delay is rarely considered and the stability under the grid impedance uncertainties is not discussed, especially in the capacitive grid or complex weak grid. To address these concerns, this study proposes a modified EL-based PBC method based on the output admittance reshaping for LCL-filtered grid-tied inverters. The system’ passive region is expanded by adding capacitor current feedback loop up to the Nyquist frequency. The potential resonance is thus eliminated irrespective of the grid impedance. Additionally, the stable region and control parameters design methods of the modified EL-based PBC method with inverter-side control are also carried out. To verify the correctness of the theoretical analysis, both simulation and experimental results are investigated from a 3 kW grid-tied inverter prototype.
