Nanotechnology in Advanced Drug Delivery

Description

Nanotechnology is an upcoming, highly challenging, and a rewarding key research area in the modern scientific setup. It is a field which has been developed to scrutinize, revamp, and control human biological systems at the molecular level. Nanotechnology deals with nanodimension regime and leads to tremendous changes in bulk material properties which has potential applications in all fields including drug delivery. Nanosizing or incorporation of drugs into polymeric and/or lipid-based nanoparticles can help increase the therapeutic potential by delivering drugs having poor aqueous solubility, low permeability, instability, and extensive first-pass metabolism. Nanoparticles have changed the face of delivery of modern, as well as conventional drugs, due to their targeting potential to nucleolus, cell, and tissues, accessing deep molecular targets and controlling drug release. Nanoenabled drug delivery technologies continue to provide a strategy to expand market opportunities for the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries.

We particularly take an interest in manuscripts that report relevance of nanotechnological concepts in different fields of bioactive delivery including active drugs, protein, DNA, and RNA via different routes like oral, transdermal, topical, and intravenous. Reviews that summarize the different scientific outcomes of application of nanotechnology and nanomedicine in the arena of drug delivery are also invited. Main topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Formulation and characterization of different nanocarriers, namely, nanoparticles, liposomes, niosomes, nanoemulsions, nanosupensions, dendrimers, carbon nanotubes, and so forth
  • Multifunctional nanocarriers as a targeted nanomedicine
  • Specific application of nanotechnology in:
    • Oral bioavailability enhancement
    • Topical and transdermal delivery
    • Gene delivery (DNA and siRNA delivery)
    • Vaccine delivery
    • Protein/peptide delivery
    • Nasal and pulmonary delivery
    • Sustained ocular drug delivery
    • Nanotoxicology
    • Any other challenges pertaining to nanotechnology and nanomedicines

Before submission authors should carefully read over the journal's Author Guidelines, which are located at http://www.hindawi.com/journals/jdd/guidelines/. Prospective authors should submit an electronic copy of their complete manuscript through the journal Manuscript Tracking System at http://mts.hindawi.com/ according to the following timetable:
