C-Peptide and Its C-Terminal Fragments Improve Erythrocyte Deformability in Type 1 Diabetes Patients

Erythrocyte elongation index (EI) (%) ± SD for erythrocytes from healthy controls and type 1 diabetes patients. The latter cells were incubated with C-peptide, hexapeptide (HP), and pentapeptide (PP) from the C-terminal region of C-peptide as well as a middle fragment (MF) and scrambled peptide (SCR, control). Results for combined incubation with PP and oubain or EDTA are also shown. Data are obtained at the shear stress level 1.2 Pa. versus untreated erythrocytes from type 1 diabetes patients.
