Histidine Decarboxylase Deficiency Prevents Autoimmune Diabetes in NOD Mice

HDC−/− mice are partially resistant to the development of autoimmune diabetes. (a) Cumulative incidence of spontaneous diabetes in female HDC+/+ () and HDC−/− strains (). Mice were considered diabetic when glycemia >2.5 g/L. (b) Serum levels of IL-6, IFNγ, IL-12, and leptin in HDC−/− NOD and NOD female mice. For measuring leptin, serum was obtained from starved mice.
