Because of the mutual compensation of two half-waves of ℎ(𝜆), only each third half-wave of ℎ(𝑡) contributes to the extreme value of 𝑓_out(𝑡), and the maximum overlaps between ℎ(𝜆) and 𝑓_inp(𝑡) are now one-third as effective as before.
