Clock/Frequency Generation Circuits and Systems

Description

Clock generation and frequency synthesis systems have played a critical role in modern communication system design. As data rate increases, low-noise and low-power clock/frequency generation is getting more important than ever for high-performance digital communication systems. Timing uncertainty directly affects the overall performance of microprocessors and I/O links. The quality of wireless transceiver systems is often determined by the phase noise performance of frequency synthesizers. Active researches in the areas of clocking, data synchronization, and frequency generation have been performed for broad applications.

The main focus of this special issue will be on the new and existing clock/frequency generation circuits and systems for wireline and wireless system IC designs. The special issue will become an international forum for researchers to summarize the most recent developments and ideas in the field, with a special emphasis given to advanced technical results obtained within the last five years. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Clock/frequency generation systems
  • Clock and data recovery systems
  • Synchronization systems
  • Phase-locked loops, frequency synthesizers
  • Low noise oscillators
  • Phase and frequency modulation systems
  • Coupling, testing, and analysis
  • On-chip clock monitoring and diagnosis systems
  • Clock distribution networks
