Sustainable Transportation: Energy

Call for Papers

Sustainable transportation is transportation with a minimized use of fossil energy resources and with a use of renewable energy resources that is within replenishing levels. Currently, the transportation sector is responsible for approximately one-third of the emission of green-house gasses, and the sector is thus an important target for emissions reductions. An increasing population and an increasing transportation demand only compounds this situation. Depending on definition, transportation may include roadtraffic, airways, railways, waterways, transportation terminals, pipelines, and logistics including agriculture, forestry, and construction sector and all of these should be considered when evaluating the contribution of transportation to global warming and assessing and developing ways of transitioning the sector, being more efficient, environmentally friendly, and based on renewable energy sources.

This special issue welcomes contributions on the energy aspects of sustainable transportation. It also welcomes articles on future trends in transportation application. The special issue includes planning, design, operation, maintenance, and social research.

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:

  • Renewable and sustainable energy sources in transportation
  • Integration between transportation, electricity, heating, and cooling systems in smart energy systems
  • New-generation transportation systems
  • Sustainable combustion technologies
  • Energy, exergy, and performance analysis
  • Energy recovery systems and alternative/renewable/clean energy technologies
  • Sustainable transportation materials
  • Life-cycle design, life-cycle assessment, and life-cycle cost assessment applications

Authors can submit their manuscripts through the Manuscript Tracking System at
