Description
Privacy and security are major concerns in information systems. The digitization of healthcare services offers access to personal health information from any electronic device, anywhere in the world, with an Internet connection. The benefits of having medical information available ubiquitously are multiple, and one of them is to raise patients' awareness of the diseases from which they suffer and to improve medical treatment.
Normally, users have no idea how their personal data is managed. The presence of healthcare data in the cloud has aroused the interest of cybercriminals, who attack systems in order to obtain confidential information and get a financial gain in return. The number of data breaches that occur each year is high; more than 50 million electronic medical records have been attacked since 2019, and the number of security breaches in 2021 is expected to triple compared to the previous year. In this sense, the privacy and security of information systems should be enhanced to make them more robust and of better quality.
This Special Issue aims to advance the state-of-the-art by collecting novel research in the areas of privacy and security in healthcare information systems. The massive use of these systems must be accompanied by significant security and privacy measures to generate greater confidence in the eHealth market. We welcome contributions on security and privacy in eHealth applications and papers related to standalone, web-based, or mobile information systems, but not limited to these areas. The systems addressed in the Special Issue can be Electronic Medical Records (EMR), Electronic Health Records (EHRs), or personal health records (PHRs), and we welcome both original research and review articles.

- Studies addressing the trade-off between privacy and security and energy efficiency
