3D Printing and Additive Manufacturing for Biomaterials and Biomedical Engineering

Call for Papers

3D printing and additive manufacturing is one of the key components of the Industry 4.0 that was initiated by Germany; it is also highly regarded by the US via its Advanced Manufacturing Partnership (AMP) as well as the Made in China 2025 Program. It is well expected that a large portion of our daily life will be changed or greatly influenced by 3D printing in the years to come.

One of the unique advantages that 3D printing has demonstrated is its capability to realize customization/personalization. This is true not only to the design of new garage kits, clothes, food, and so forth, but also to the development of personalized biomedical implants, artificial ears, and even drugs prescribed for patents to meet their individual needs.

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:

  • Processing of biomedical metallic materials by 3D printing and additive manufacturing
  • Processing of biomedical ceramic and other nonmetallic materials (e.g., biogel) by 3D printing and additive manufacturing
  • Correlation between the microstructure, mechanical and biomedical properties, and processing for the as-built materials
  • In vitro and/or in vivo evaluation of the as-built biomedical materials
  • Novel processing apparatus and analytical means for 3D printing and additive manufacturing of biomedical materials
