Uterus. (a) Macroscopic photos. A circle indicates the ovary and arrows indicate the uterus. In the SHAM group, the uterus was thin but soft. In the OVX group, it looked thinner than that in the SHAM group and was scleroid and atrophic. On the other hand, in the OVX + 17β-estradiol group, it was hypertrophic and fresh. (b) Hematoxylin and eosin staining. In the SHAM group, histological features included anestrus, with the epithelium invaginated to endometrium. In the OVX group, invagination of the epithelium had almost disappeared. Otherwise, in the OVX + 17β-estradiol group, proestrus was shown and the uterine cavity was extended.
