Differential effect of sex steroids on histamine release by PMCs from male and female rats, immunologically stimulated by the system IgE-DNP. PMCs were pretreated with each hormone at the indicated concentrations and sensitized at the same time with antidinitrophenyl (DNP) IgE (10 μg/mL). PMCs were then stimulated with DNP-HSA (100 ng/mL) for 30 min in the presence of the corresponding hormone. The release of histamine was measured. IgE anti-DNP + DNP-HAS plus hormone versus IgE anti-DNP + DNP-HSA alone.
