Recombinant Enolase of Trypanosoma cruzi as a Novel Vaccine Candidate against Chagas Disease in a Mouse Model of Acute Infection

Figure 4

Evaluation of protection generated by vaccination with rTcENO or pBKTcENO. (a) Parasitemia in immunized mice after challenge with T. cruzi. BALB/c mice were immunized as described in Materials and Methods. Values plotted show the mean ± standard deviation of eight mice per group and are representative of two independent experiments. At the peak of infection, parasitemia levels were compared using one-way analysis of variance and post hoc Tukey’s tests. A significant difference was detected by comparing rTcENO versus PBS (), pBKTcENO versus PBS () and pBKTcENO versus pBK-CMV (). (b) Survival of immunized and infected mice. Values plotted show the mean ± SD of eight mice per group and are representative of two independent experiments with similar results. A statistically significant difference () between rTcENO versus PBS is indicated.
