Enhancement of Macrophage Function by the Antimicrobial Peptide Sublancin Protects Mice from Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus

The alteration of various immune cell percentages and cell numbers in the MLNs of MRSA-challenged mice. Mice were orally administered with sublancin (0.6 mg/kg or 1.2 mg/kg) for 14 consecutive days before infection. Phenotypic analysis of single-cell suspensions collected from the MLNs (the MLNs were excised from the mice 36 hours after infection). The phenotype of CD4+ and CD8+ T cells was further characterized by the expression of CD44 and CD62L, cell surface receptors which are differentially expressed on activated (CD44hiCD62Llo), memory (CD44hiCD62Lhi), and naïve (CD44loCD62Lhi) T cell populations.
