Calcitriol Inhibits the Proliferation of Triple-Negative Breast Cancer Cells through a Mechanism Involving the Proinflammatory Cytokines IL-1β and TNF-α

The combination of calcitriol and TNF-α inhibited cell proliferation in a greater extent than each compound alone. SUM-229PE (a), HCC1806 (b), and MCF7 (c) cells were incubated with calcitriol, TNF-α, or their combination during 6 days, and cell proliferation was evaluated. Calcitriol was used at the concentrations of 0.1, 100, and 10 nM in SUM-229PE, HCC1806, and MCF7 cells, respectively, and TNF-α at a concentration of 5 ng/ml in all cases. Data from vehicle-treated cells (-) were normalized to 100%. The results represent the average of 3 experiments, each in . vs. vehicle and vs. combined treatment.
