(a) The lengthwise slices were equidistant; the most distal slice was kept intact while the rest were sliced crosswise in a nearly equidistant manner. The crosswise width was computed based on the radius of the smallest cross-sectional area of the lengthwise slice; the crosswise slicing process began at the centroid of the smallest cross-section and symmetrically outward.
