Schematic representation of drug loading and coating of pSi. Spontaneous adsorption of the drug molecules into the matrix pores consists of a simple immersion of the pSi structure into the drug solution. The particles are then recovered by filtration and coated with a range of biodegradable polymers for controlled release.
