Scheme of the nanocomposites synthetized by two different methods. The HAuCl4 salt is reduced by different agents in order to obtain gold nanoparticles with two sizes, 20 nm (CTAB) and 40 nm (sodium borohydride). After, the surface gold atoms bind to the thiol group of the PEG; the exposed amino group reacts with the activated carboxyl group of the atorvastatin producing an amide bound.
