Low-Dimensional Nanostructures for Optoelectronic Applications

Description

In recent years, low-dimensional (zero-, one-, and two-dimensional) nanostructures have attracted wide attention and became a focus of scientific research and engineering application. This is due to their novel physical and chemical properties caused by size and quantum effects, as well as potential applications in various kinds of devices, for example,. optoelectronics, nanoelectronics, chemical sensing, medical diagnostics, drug delivery, and so forth. For example, semiconductor quantum dot lasers have been intensively investigated for applications as light sources in modern optical communication systems. The importance of this research field is evident from the increasing number of projects funded around the world and explosively increasing number of research publications in the literature. Therefore, the editors feel that it is the right time to bring a special issue on low-dimensional nanostructures for optoelectronic applications for the benefit of readers of the Journal of Nanomaterials (JNM).

The aim of this special issue is to introduce the recent advances in this specific field to the JNM readers, as well as provide a platform for exchanging knowledge and information between scientists/engineers. Prospective authors from both academia and industry are invited to submit original research and comprehensive review articles, relevant to the following topics. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Growth and synthesis of low-dimensional nanostructures, such as quantum wells/dots/wires, nanowires, nanotubes, superlattices, NEMS, and photonics crystals
  • Novel characterization and analysis techniques (structural, electrical, optical, etc.)
  • Device processing and optoelectronic applications, such as lasers/LEDs, detectors/sensors, modulators, solar cells, and optical NEMS
  • Physics relevant to low-dimensional nanostructures
  • Modelling and simulation of materials growth/synthesis and optoelectronic device performance

Before submission authors should carefully read over the journal’s Author Guidelines, which are located at http://www.hindawi.com/journals/jnm/guidelines/. Prospective authors should submit an electronic copy of their complete manuscript through the journal Manuscript Tracking System at http://mts.hindawi.com/submit/journals/jnm/ldno/ according to the following timetable:
