Nanofluidics and Nanofluids

Description

Nanofluidics is the study of the behavior, manipulation, and control of fluids that are confined to nanometer-sized structures, while nanofluids are a class of fluids which contains nanoparticles. Both nanofluidics and nanofluids can exhibit novel physical behaviors not observed in larger structures (e.g., increased viscosity, enhanced thermal conductivity, special rheological, and acoustical properties), which make them potentially useful in many applications. Recently, the advancement in nanotechnology has triggered a greater motivation to investigate nanofluidics and nanofluids in detail.

The special issue covers a wide range of research topics from fundamental physical concepts to applied technologies in the field of nanofluidics and nanofluids. The focus of this issue is on the specific concepts, properties, phenomena, and processes related to nanofluidics and nanoparticles suspended in a base fluid (e.g., air and water). The accepted papers will show a diversity of new findings and overviews of the recent research and development in this area. Both experimental and modeling submissions are very welcome.

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:

  • Fundamental principles of nanoscale phenomena like flow, heat and mass transfer, and reactions
  • Thermal, electrical, optical, rheological, and acoustical properties
  • Theoretical model, numerical simulation, and novel experiment for nanoscale flows
  • Dynamics of dispersed nanoparticles
  • Nanoparticle measurements and standards
  • Nanoparticle-laden multiphase flow
  • Colloids and aerosols
