New Perspectives on Diagnostics, Prognosis, and Therapy in Aggressive Endocrine Tumours
Description
In the recent years, we have witnessed many new diagnostic strategies for endocrine tumours, such as biochemical markers and somatostatin receptor imaging, as well as PET imaging with specific tracers like 5-HTP and DOPA. Also, a number of new therapies have been introduced in the clinical arena like somatostatin analogues. Yet, endocrine tumours are rare diseases, often very aggressive, with a poor prognosis, and we need to combine current expertise for the benefit of quality of life and survival rates of our patients.
This special issue aims to discuss the various aspects of diagnosis and treatments in aggressive endocrine tumours, in order to give to affected patients an optimal multimodal management, and the important contributions for this from the fields of genetics, proteomics, clinical chemistry, pathology, radiology, and nuclear medicine.
We invite authors to contribute original as well as review articles regarding the prognosis and therapy in aggressive endocrine tumours, the evaluation of the present outcomes, and the development of future diagnostic and treatment options. We are particularly interested in papers describing new nonsurgical approaches and less invasive procedures, with particular attention to cell-based therapy. The authors are asked to report a critical evaluation of these treatment options, showing their results and complications. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:
- Cellular models and epigenetic in endocrine tumours
- Animal models of endocrine tumours
- Insulin and IGF 1 pathway in endocrine tumour carcinogenesis
- New diagnostic imaging strategies in endocrine tumours
- New targets and pathways of therapy
- Current strategies in advanced hormone-dependent tumours: new targets of therapy?
- Neuroendocrine (including carcinoid) tumours
- Paraneoplastic (endocrine/metabolic) syndrome of solid & soft tumours
- Adrenal cortical cancers: state-of-the-art treatment
- Diagnostics of endocrine tumours in multiple endocrine neoplasia
- Advances in surgical management of metastases of endocrine tumours
- Current treatment options for disseminated parathyroid carcinoma
Before submission authors should carefully read over the journal's Author Guidelines, which are located at http://www.hindawi.com/journals/jo/guidelines/. Prospective authors should submit an electronic copy of their complete manuscript through the journal Manuscript Tracking System at http://mts.hindawi.com/ according to the following timetable:
