Overwt: overweight; BMI: body mass index; HOMA-IR: homeostasis model assessment-insulin resistance; ATP-III: Adult Treatment Panel III; SEM: standard error of the mean; HDL-C: high density lipoprotein cholesterol; LDL-C: low density lipoprotein cholesterol; BP: blood pressure. All variables measured in the morning after an overnight fast of ≥6 hours, except for LDL-C which was calculated using the Friedewald formula. Data analyzed using SAS survey regression procedure (continuous) or survey frequency procedure (categorical). aLDL missing for participants, * , , , and § significantly different from metabolically healthy obese by the same definition.
