Research suggests that both humoral and cellular immunity are associated with the pathogenesis of autoimmune systemic diseases [7, 8]. Autoantigens lead to the activation of antigen-specific T and B cells. Then, immune complexes and cytokines are formed. It is collagenases and other proteases that eventually contribute to damage in the joints and on the ocular surface [7, 8, 12].
