Energy Systems and Power Network Optimization of Future Electric Power Grid

Call for Papers

The electric power grid and energy industry are undergoing significant transformational changes driven by several factors such as increased penetration of distributed generation, microgrids, electric vehicles, and distributed storage devices as well as the introduction of new technologies.

The future grid must be intelligent in order to accurately and timely handle these complexities. Rather than offline approach to system monitoring, future intelligent grid will need to be monitored and controlled in real time to allow for providing reliable, safe, and secure services and empower customers to actively participate and benefit from greater and more diverse market opportunities and services. This will be challenging for system operators, planners, and engineers. Dealing with these challenges will require a paradigm shift in designing, planning, and operating future intelligent power grid.

Researchers are invited to submit original and unpublished articles concerning recent advances in optimization tools to deal with future complex power grid. Papers proposing new approaches, models, and methodologies to deal with complex optimization problems in future power systems are especially welcome.

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:

  • Computational intelligence (CI) applied to complex optimization problems in future intelligent grid
  • Real time operation and optimization
  • Forecasting and estimation methods for future intelligent grid
  • Power systems dynamics and control
  • Large-scale penetration of renewable energy, electric vehicles (EV), and distributed energy resources
  • Multiagent systems for complex simulations in intelligent grid
  • Planning and reliability of intelligent grid
  • Energy market considering renewable and electric vehicles
  • Algorithms and methods to improve the resilience of power systems
  • Control and optimization demand response technology
  • Coordinated control of coupled energy systems, such as power and natural gas networks
