Computational Intelligence in the Optimization of Production, Transportation, Logistics, and Supply Chain Problems

Call for Papers

Real-world applications often lead to problems too complex to be solved by traditional exact optimization methods; some cannot be mathematically formulated, others are stochastic or involve uncertainty, and others are either too large or involve too much data. In all cases, efficient solutions approaches are needed. Computational intelligence provides tools to address such problems, including but not limited to evolutionary computation, neural networks, and fuzzy systems.

Production, transportation, logistics, and supply chain problems are amongst the most common optimization problems that are of interest to both the public and the private sectors including industry, retail, healthcare, and passenger and freight transportation. In addition, some of these topics are of prime importance regarding air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions, which are known to have harmful effects on human health and on the environment.

The aim of this feature cluster is to publish state-of-the-art research papers concerning all areas of analytical and empirical research related to application of computational intelligence and soft computing approaches in the optimization of production, transportation, logistics, and supply chain problems. We highly encourage and invite researchers to contribute to this special issue by submitting their high-quality research and review articles in these areas. The major acceptance criterion for a submission will be the quality and originality of the contribution. However, the special issue will strive to feature a balanced representation of the different communities and problem domains.
