Functional Metagenomics Characterization of an Anaerobic Saltwater Bioreactor

Figure 1

Change in the taxonomic composition of the bioreactors over time. 16S rRNA community profile metagenomics data were generated from (i) initial inoculum; (ii) a high salinity; and (iii) a low salinity bioreactor. The graphs show the change in the relative proportions over time of (a) overall taxonomic diversity in the bioreactors; (b) Archaea versus Bacteria; (c) hydrogenotrophic, acetoclastic, and methylotrophic archaeal methanogens and anaerobic methane-oxidizing archaea (ANME); (d) sulfate reducing bacteria (SRB).
