Description

The Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) is a collection of medical wearable devices and applications that are linked to healthcare information technology systems through cutting-edge communication technologies. IoMT is also known as healthcare IoT. Via smartphone applications, the technology allows patients to transfer their health data to doctors over a secure network in order to better surveil diseases and track and prevent chronic illnesses. Therefore, it can effectively reduce unnecessary hospital visits and the burden on healthcare systems.

To construct a large-scale IoMT for smart healthcare, reliable and accurate electronic devices, low-cost and intelligent sensors, high-speed and error-tolerant networking, and a varied selection of smart sensing applications are strongly required. In particular, intelligent sensing technologies have been increasingly fused into wearable devices for chronic disease tracking and critical physiological monitoring. Intelligent sensors employ computational intelligent algorithms, data integration techniques, and signal processing techniques to better understand sensor data, leading to measures that can be used in smart sensing applications. The IoMT ecosystem expansion with intelligent sensors is paving the way for smart clinic decision-making in personalized healthcare.

This Special Issue focuses on the characteristics and features of IoMT for smart and personalized healthcare, and the advances in intelligent sensors and sensor systems, such as intelligent sensing for internet-of-things (IoT) platforms and smart sensing applications, etc. We welcome original research and review articles.

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:

  • Intelligent sensors and sensor systems
  • Non-invasive sensing and imaging
  • Multimodality sensing and fusion
  • Analogue filters for smart sensing applications
  • Signal processing and intelligent sensing for IoMT platforms
  • Sensor signal processing
  • IoMT accessibility in healthcare
  • Intelligent health monitoring
  • Real-time healthcare monitoring and security alerting systems
  • Achieving data security and privacy across healthcare applications using cybersecurity mechanisms
  • Privacy-preserving techniques for healthcare data
