Environmental Pollution and Food Safety: Health Hazard Analysis and Human Health Risk Assessment

This issue is now closed for submissions.

Description

Environmental pollution is a challenging problem worldwide, which leads to several biological implications to all biota. In particular, humans are subjected to wide range of environmental pollutants via food intake. Contamination of food of either plant or animal origin with different pollutants is a major problem in many countries. Several legislation bodies are frequently asking for continuous screening and monitoring of chemical residues in food and subsequently investigating the possible human health risk assessment.

Chemicals such as mycotoxins, heavy metals, and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons are linked to human cancer exposure. Additionally, chemicals like antibiotics and sulfonamides are associated with production of drug resistant microorganisms.

In this special issue, we would like to invite original research articles, Clinical Study, and review articles from all over the world to confirm the current situation of chemical residues in food and the possible health hazards. We believe that this special issue will serve as an important source for decision-makers to evaluate the current situation of environmental pollutants situation in one place. Additionally this issue will enrich the scientific community with a lot of interesting and useful information and reports. Possible reduction trials and environmental bioremediation will be of importance in this issue. Mechanistic studies related to the induction of adverse effects and/or bioadaptation are welcome.

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:

  • Heavy metals, mycotoxins, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, residues in food, and their effects on human health.
  • Antimicrobials incidence in food for human health
  • Hazard analysis and human health risk assessment of such toxicants
  • Mechanisms of induction of adverse effects on human health and bioadaptation
  • Reduction trials and environmental bioremediation
  • Nano- and microplastic residues in food
