Reversible Audiometric Threshold Changes in Children with Uncomplicated Malaria

Figure 2

(a) Changes in hearing threshold 28 days after start of treatment of uncomplicated malaria relative to threshold before treatment (median, 25% and 75% quartiles). Hearing improvement compared with day 0 was significant at wavelengths 250 Hz and 500 Hz and for left ear also 1000 Hz (signed rank test performed for each frequency and ear, , ). (b) Changes in hearing threshold 28 days after start of treatment of uncomplicated malaria relative to threshold at follow-up 9–12 months later. Hearing was significantly impaired on day 28 as compared with followup at all wavelengths and both ears (signed rank test, , ).
