Monocyte and macrophage differentiation. Immature monocytes, released from bone marrow, migrate through the bloodstream under the influence of different cytokines and chemokines into tissues (lung, liver, spleen peritoneal cavity, and brain) where they differentiate into resident macrophages under the influence of IFN- and LPS.
