(a) show the classical interactions between triple helix and DS DNA with Hoogsteen and reverse Hoogsteen bonds. Shown in (b) the models could account for the displacement of the homologous Watson strand by the primer or the R strand as in recombination with the invaded duplex without mismatches. The most stable triplexes are G: G:C, C: C:G, A: A:T, and T: T:A.
