Light microscopy of intracellular amastigote forms of Leishmania amazonensis treated with different concentrations of amiodarone (AMIO). (a–d) After 24 h of treatment, it is possible to observe a significant reduction in the parasite number with 6 and 8 μM AMIO (c, d). (e–h) After 48 h of treatment, a significant reduction was observed in the cultures treated with 3 μM AMIO (f). Infection of macrophages was carried out as described in Materials and Methods and Figure 1. For all the images, the scale bars are similar to those observed in the panels (a) and (e). (a) Control parasites/24 h of treatment, which means 48 h of infection; (e) Control parasites/48 h of treatment, which means 72 h of infection.
