Lipoxin Inhibits Fungal Uptake by Macrophages and Reduces the Severity of Acute Pulmonary Infection Caused by Paracoccidioides brasiliensis

P. brasiliensis infection induces the production of LTC₄, LXA₄, and PGE₂ by resistant and susceptible mice. Levels of lipid mediators were measured in the lung homogenates of P. brasiliensis (1 × 10⁶ cells) infected resistant (A/J) and susceptible mice (B10.A). The mice were sacrificed 48 h after infection and their lung homogenates assessed for the presence of LTC₄ (a), LXA₄ (b), and PGE₂ (c) as detailed in Materials and Methods. The bars depict means ± SEM of lipid mediator levels of two experiments (5 mice per group). .
