Lipoxin Inhibits Fungal Uptake by Macrophages and Reduces the Severity of Acute Pulmonary Infection Caused by Paracoccidioides brasiliensis

P. brasiliensis infection induces the production of LTC4, LXA4, and PGE2 by resistant and susceptible mice. Levels of lipid mediators were measured in the lung homogenates of P. brasiliensis (1 × 106 cells) infected resistant (A/J) and susceptible mice (B10.A). The mice were sacrificed 48 h after infection and their lung homogenates assessed for the presence of LTC4 (a), LXA4 (b), and PGE2 (c) as detailed in Materials and Methods. The bars depict means ± SEM of lipid mediator levels of two experiments (5 mice per group). .
